In Orange County, the Western Alliance for Nature has helped to fund and support the Bolsa Chica Land Trust and the Amigos de Bolsa Chica in the preservation, restoration and maintenance of the Bolsa Chica wetlands and surrounding ecosystem. One of the few remaining large coastal ecosystems in Southern California, Bolsa Chica has an unusually rich diversity of habitats with its salt and freshwater wetlands, mesas, coastal bluff scrub, and grasslands.

Belding's Savannah Sparrow Snowy Egret

The habitat diversity of the rare Bolsa Chica coastal ecosystem is the rest stop of thousands of migratory birds from as far north as the Arctic and as far south as South America. Attracting bird watchers and photographers from all over the world, it can be a significant contributor to the local economy
Freshwater wetlands, coastal scrub, and grasslands of the mesa provide habitat to numerous birds of prey, song birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects and mammal species.
