Markham's Storm-petral Discovered Nesting In Chilean Desert!

History making expedition discovery generates momentum to this project. In April, 2015 three cavities in the Pampa Chaca and Pampa Camarones, south of Arica are discovered with eggs. The first photo and video ever of a storm petrel in a desert nesting cavity are taken. Subsequent explorations uncover evidence of both Elliott's and Hornby's Storm-Petrel's nests, further making ornithological history. Unfortunately, large numbers of dead birds from the impacts of mining were also discovered. All this demonstrates the importance and urgency of continuing this project toward achieving protection of the discovered nesting sites from human impact.
